Let’s face facts.   Energy is vital to our standard of living, our economy, our security, our continued success and environmental health.   Alternate sources of energy are on the forefront of all our minds nowadays.  Our lawmakers are taking a harder look than ever and seeking professionals for a prudent direction.  EEA’s main article, “Wind Energy and Nuclear Power Get a Push” focuses on two potential winners of alternate energy sources that can take a front seat.

Under Dr. Roy Stoecker, EEA was just awarded a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) with National Grid to conduct permitting & licensing support, environmental field assessments, delineations/ evaluations and any specialized environmental needs within their expansive northeast grid.  Primary support staff will be Denise Harrington, Laura Schwanof and Michelle Nannen.  All EEA Departments will be involved in this exciting project.

 
        

Ecology Division

EEA was invited to present a paper at the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) Offshore Wind Energy Workshop in Wilmington Delaware on September 9th-10th. Michelle Nannen, Senior Marine Ecologist and Dr. Roy Stoecker attended.  Michelle presented a paper on Environmental Studies for the Long Island Offshore Wind Project.  She can be reached in our Stony Brook Ecology Office.

On Sep 11th, Jim McAleer, Director of Strategic Planning and Dr. Roy Stoecker, VP,  presented  EEA’s Substratum Intake System (SIS) Technology at the USDOE/EPA Workshop on Energy Sustainability in NYC.   Jim and Roy can be reached at our Garden City office, Extension 29 and 11.  Link to SIS Technology, The New Substratum Intake System on our web site.

Laura Schwanof VP, RLA, is directing design studies for wetland creation/restoration for the Nassau County Pond Project.  Four county ponds are being improved for water quality and native habitat.  She is also directing a pondscaping project in the Village of Babylon.  Contact Laura in our Stony Brook Office.

Michelle Nannen has just been assigned as Project Manager for the Village of Mamaroneck Harbor & Coastal Zone Management Commission Permit Applications Project.  Michelle can be reached at our Stony Brook office for more information.

Phase I and Hazardous Materials Divisions

Another NYSDEC Brownsfield site is tackled. Our Hazmat Division just initiated a remediation project at a Brownfields site in Flushing, Queens.  Plans for a new hotel are on the table once the site is cleaned up.  Contact  Rich Fasciani at the Garden City Office.

Air Quality & Noise Division


EEA’s
Air Quality and Noise Division has been completing Air Quality and Noise Impact Assessments for the Bronx River Parkway Improvement Project in the Bronx for the NYSDOT and the proposed Gowanus Pumping Station in Brooklyn for the NYCDEP, including addressing the new City Construction Noise Code.  Contact  Lee Hairr at the Garden City Office.
