KEYSPAN GENERATION LLC STUDIESTHE SUBSTRATUM INTAKE SYSTEM
An
Innovative Water Intake System Dear EEA Friend: In the Spring 2004 Edition of Insights, we introduced to you a ground-breaking new technology for a submerged cooling water intake structure for power plants and large facilities invented by EEA Principal Roy Stoecker, Ph.D. Big things are beginning to happen! ENR GIVES SUBSTRATUM INTAKE SYSTEM A BOOST Among the more challenging aspects of introducing a new technology is gaining the attention of the industry and providing the impetus to action. Only two weeks after EEA presented the Substratum Intake System to EPA officials in Washington, Engineering News Record (ENR) provided some of that impetus when it reported earlier this month that Keyspan scientists considered the concept promising. (See ENR News Article.) In this Spring’s issue, we return to Substratum Intake Systems (SIS) for an insider update on EEA’s exciting new developments with this technology. OTHER EEA NEWS….. EEA principals are pleased to announce that Nicholas Recchia, Senior Hydrogeologist, has been named Vice President in charge of Hazardous Materials Testing and Remediation Division. Mr. Recchia is a Certified Professional Geologist (CPG), specializing in hydrogeology, Phase II/III hazmat testing and remediation and hazmat permitting/regulations. Since joining the firm in 1989, he has focused on research and technology advances in applied hazmat issues, client base development and initiatives to enhance the continued expansion of EEA's HazMat Division. EEA is also pleased to welcome James McAleer to the firm. Mr. McAleer has an extensive background and many years of experience in marketing and communications and has been named the Director of Strategic Planning for EEA. He is currently involved in introducing the SIS concept to the user community and can be reached at jmcaleer@eeaconsultants.com. Roy Stoecker, Ph.D, Vice President, was invited to participate in the formation of a new wind energy group called the Offshore Wind Energy Collaborative (OWEC), sponsored by General Electric, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. The objective of OWEC is to explore technological and environmental feasibility of offshore wind generation in deeper waters of North America. Approximately 50 of the most prominent wind energy scientists attended the formative meeting in Washington D.C. in February.
